Chinese Culture Research Fellowship aims at
sponsoring foreign experts engaged in study of Chinese
culture to further their understanding of modern China, to
deepen their research of the long and profound Chinese
culture and tradition, so as to enhance the friendship
between the Chinese people and people from all over the
world. The China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred
to as the CSC) is entrusted by the State Education
Commission of China to take charge of the applications for
and management of this scholarship. The CSC welcomes
researchers and experts from all over the world to come to
China to carry out research and co-operation.
1. The details of the Scholarship
Researchers are entitled to:
free research tuition, free lodging,
and emergency medical care.
an amount
of living allowance of RMB 1500 yuan per month while doing
research work in China, and a lump-sum grant of RMB 750 yuan
of books and reference materials.
a
grant of not more than RMB 1000 yuan for research tour
inside China if approved by the supervisor of the accepting
institution according to the research needs.
Researcher shall bear their own
expenses for international trip. (Items 2 and 3
mentioned above are of the standard implemented in
1998)
2. Research area
Researchers can engage in the fields such
as Chinese language, literature, history, philosophy,
pedagogy, economics, ancient architecture, history of art.
The working language is Chinese.
The
research shall be conducted in the institutions of higher
learning. This scholarship is not provided to the
researchers who study at the institutions other than the one
accepting Chinese government scholarship students.
3. The duration of the scholarship
The Duration of the research is set
according to the candidates' research plan, but shall not
last for more than 5 months. It is kindly advised that the
research be carried out between February to June or
September to the following January according to the school
calendar.
The scholarship usually is
not to be extended. Under special circumstances, the
researcher should apply for extension one month before the
end of the scholarship. The application of extension must be
attached with the institution's approval and sent to the CSC
for examination and approval. The extension can not last
longer than one month.
4. Eligibility
Applicants must:
be of
non-Chinese nationality and hold effective passport.
hold professor or associate professor
titles, or must have obtained Doctor degrees, or have been
engaged in the research of Chinese Culture for three
consecutive years after obtaining Master degrees.
hold fixed profession engaging or
mainly engaging in the research of Chinese culture.
have good command of Chinese language.
be healthy and under the age of 55.
5. Application procedures and enrolment
The applicants can apply for the
Application Form for Chinese Culture Research Fellowship
from the CSC, or through the related Chinese universities,
professors, researchers or the nearest Chinese Embassy. The
applicant shall carefully fill out the Application Form in
Chinese:
Applicants can refer to the
"Name List for Academic Tutoring" for the
professors or the institutions.
The
Applicants shall send the completed "Application Form
for Chinese Culture Research Fellowship" (One original
and one photocopy) to the CSC three months before the
intended research and must be attached with the Notarised
photocopy of the highest diploma received and recommendation
letter.
The CSC will entrust relevant
experts to process the application materials and shall
notify the applicants the decision within 45 days after
receiving the application materials. Incomplete application
materials will not be processed.
The
scholarship holder can apply for the F-Visa to the Chinese
Embassy or Consulate with the Admission Notice and Visa
Application Form for Foreigners

China (JW201).
