Ambassador He meets with Irish officials on combating COVID-19

On 12th March, Ambassador He Xiangdong met with Orla O’Hanrahan, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Dermot Mulligan, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Eileen Sharpe, Head of Business Development for Growth Markets of IDA Ireland and Sean Bresnan, Procurement Head of Health Service Executive.

Ambassador He briefed on China’s comprehensive prevention and control measures and the latest developments as well. He noted the Chinese and Irish sides have been in good collaboration on fighting against the epidemic. Countries all over the world, including Ireland, are currently faced with the challenge of the pandemic. China has achieved remarkable results and accumulated useful experience, and is willing to strengthen cooperation with the Irish side to fight against COVID-19.

O’Hanrahan and Mulligan expressed their admiration for the Chinese government and people’s courage and resolve in the fight against the epidemic. They said that China has set a good example for other countries in epidemic control and treatment. Ireland would like to learn from China’s experience and achievement, and to further enhance the exchanges and cooperation in the epidemic prevention and control to work together in the face of the common challenge.

They also discussed emergency procurement for medical supplies, epidemic information exchange and other issues. Ambassador He stressed that the Chinese side is ready to provide support within its capacity to Ireland’s response to the epidemic.
