Ambassador He Xiangdong visited Cork

On 22nd-24th September, Ambassador He Xiangdong and his wife Mme. Xia Lining visited Cork city and Cork county at the invitation of Cork City Council and Cork County Council.

Ambassador He met with Cllr. Christopher O'Sullivan, Mayor of the County of Cork, Mr. Tim Lucey, Chief Executive of Cork County Council, Cllr. John Sheehan, Lord Mayor of Cork City and Ms. Ann Doherty, Chief Executive of Cork City Council. The Ambassador said Cork City and County Council have made great efforts in promoting China-Ireland relations. He hoped Cork City and County would further enhance their exchanges with Chinese cities and provinces. Cllr. O'Sullivan and Lord Mayor Sheehan briefed the Ambassador the twinning relationship and comprehensive cooperation between Cork County and Jiangsu Province as well as Cork City and Shanghai. They said that Cork city and county attach great importance to deepening exchanges with Chinese local authorities and promoting mutual understanding and friendship between Ireland and China. They would like to broaden their collaboration in various fields, including economic and trade, tourism and people-to-people exchange, to realize win-win cooperation and push forward the bilateral ties. Cork City and County Council welcome more Chinese enterprises to invest there.

 

Meet Prof. Patrick O'Shea, President of University College Cork

 

Attend "Beauty and Love Between China and Ireland" Photograph Exhibition with Prof. O'Shea and Lord Mayor Sheehan

Ambassador He and Mme. Xia visited University College Cork(UCC) and met Prof. Patrick O'Shea, President of UCC and Prof. Paul McSweeney, Vice President for Learning and Teaching. UCC has been conducting fruitful cooperation and joint research with Chinese universities, including Shanghai University and Beijing Technology and Business University.

Ambassador He, Prof. O'Shea and Lord Mayor Sheehan attended the “Beauty and Love Between China and Ireland” Photograph Exhibition and Award Ceremony organized by UCC Confucius Institute. When addressing the ceremony, Ambassador He said people-to-people bond is the foundation of stable bilateral relations. The photograph competition encourages the youth of the countries to know more about each other’s country. Ambassador He welcomed more Irish students to study in China, experience Chinese culture and tradition and obtain first-hand information about China’s development. Ambassador He, Lord Mayor Sheehan and Prof. O'Shea presented awards to Chinese and Irish winners.

 

Meet with Chinese students and teachers of UCC and volunteers in UCC Confucius Institute

Visit Chinese School established by Cork Chinese Business Association 

At UCC, Ambassador He and Mme. Xia met with representatives of Chinese students and teachers of UCC and volunteers in UCC Confucius Institute.

Ambassador He and Mme. Xia also paid a visit to the Chinese school established by Cork Chinese Business Association.

Mr. Shen Mingchun, Chief of the Political and Press Section of the Embassy was also present at the events.
