Ambassador He meets Mayor of Limerick City and County Council

On 28th August, Ambassador He Xiangdong met with Cllr. Michael Sheahan, Mayor of Limerick City and County Council and shared views on promoting local exchanges between China and Ireland.

Cllr. Sheahan recalled the Limerick Delegation’s visit to Hangzhou for the establishment of the Belt and Road Local Cooperation Committee and said Belt and Road initiative provides a helpful platform for local exchanges and cooperation between China and Ireland. Cllr. Sheahan reiterated Limerick City and County Council attaches great importance to Ireland-China relations. The council’s delegation led by Cllr. Sheahan will visit China soon and he would like to take this opportunity to strengthen cooperation in economic and trade, tourism and culture with Hangzhou and other Chinese cities and hoped to further enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the people of Limerick and those cities in China.

Ambassador He spoke highly of the council’s work to actively develop Sino-Irish relations and hoped Limerick City and County Council to seize the opportunities of China’s rapid development, take advantage of the healthy and stable development of China-Ireland relations. Ambassador He hoped Limerick City and County Council would work together with the Chinese side to further strengthen win-win cooperation in all areas. The Embassy is ready to work closely with its Irish friends to push the bilateral ties to a new level. Ambassador He also briefed Cllr. Sheahan new developments in China and Chinese local governments’ policies of foreign exchanges.

They also exchanged views on tourism cooperation between China and Ireland and Cllr. Sheahan expressed his willingness to promote a better visa service for Chinese tourists to Ireland.

Also present were Mr. Shen Mingchun, Chief of Political and Press Section of the Embassy and Mr. Pat Fitzgerald, Senior Executive Officer of Economic Development of Limerick City and County Council.
