Chinese Ambassador meets Irish Parliament Speaker

On Wednesday, May 30th 2018, H.E. Dr. Yue Xiaoyong, Chinese Ambassador to Ireland, hosted at his residence H.E. Mr. Seán Ó Fearghaíl, Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann (Speaker of the lower house of the Irish parliament ), who visited five Chinese cities in April.

Sharing his unforgettable experiences in China, the Ceann Comhairle asked the Ambassador to convey his appreciation to his Chinese counterparts, H.E. Mr. Li Zhanshu, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), and H.E.Mr. Wang Yang, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Mr. Ó Fearghaíl reaffirmed his commitment to stronger and more fruitful Ireland-China relations, and reiterated his readiness to do what he can to further enhance mutual understanding and win-win cooperation between the two countries.

Congratulating the Ceann Comhairle on his successful visit to China, Ambassador Yue said he remained ready to work closely with the Ceann Comhairle and other Irish parliamentarians for lasting friendship and productive partnerships between the two countries.

They also had a conversation about inter-parliamentary and people-to-people exchanges, which are an integral part of bilateral relations.

Also present were Counsellor Yang Hua, Mr. Pan Xiongwen from the Chinese Embassy, Ms. Fiona O'Loughlin T.D., Chair of the Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills, Senator Frank Feighan, member of the Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport, Mr. Martin Ferris T.D., Sinn Féin's spokesperson on Agriculture and Fisheries, Mr. Peter Finnegan, secretary general of the Houses of the Oireachtas Service.
