Ambassador Yue Attends 17th Chinese Bridge Competition

On April 7, H. E. Dr. Yue Xiaoyong, Chinese Ambassador to Ireland, attended the 17th Chinese Bridge Competition for college students in Ireland and delivered a warm speech. President Andrew Deeks of UCD, Director Zhang Wei and Director Wang Liming of UCD Confucius Institute were also in attendance.

Ambassador Yue watched with great interest the talent show by the contestants and the interaction between the MC and the audience on Chinese cultural knowledge before conferring prize to Robin Healy, champion of the 17th Chinese Bridge Competition.

In his remarks, Ambassador Yue warmly congratulated all the contestants in this competition. Comparing the Chinese Bridge to a bridge for language, a bridge for culture, and a bridge linking the hearts of the people from different countries, Ambassador Yue pointed out that it is particularly important today that all countries come together to embrace modernization, globalization, openness and inclusiveness, and join efforts to make the world a better one for the future and for our younger generations. Ambassador Yue highly commended the splendid Irish culture and expressed great satisfaction with the recent developments in China-Ireland relations. Extending his appreciation to University College Dublin, the two Confucius institutes in Ireland as well as all the Chinese language teachers and volunteers for their commitment and dedication, Ambassador Yue hoped that they would further contribute to cementing the cooperation and friendship between China and Ireland.
