Ambassador Yue Meets Special Representative Shirley Lam of Hong Kong SAR

On Tuesday, 30th January 2018, H.E. Dr. Yue Xiaoyong, Chinese Ambassador to Ireland, had a cordial meeting at the Chinese Embassy with Mme. Shirley Lam, Special Representative for Hong Kong Economic and Trade Affairs to the European Union.

Ambassador Yue exchanged information and views with Mme. Lam about the China-Ireland relations as well as the business ties and opportunities between Ireland and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) against the backdrop of Brexit, expressing his pleasure with and his appreciation of the tremendous efforts being made by Mme. Lam and her team in the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels to enhance Hong Kong's connections and cooperation with EU member states, including Ireland.

Special Representative Shirley Lam reflected on the development of Hong Kong SAR in the past two decades, citing the "One Country, Two Systems" policy and Chinese Central Government's support as major reasons for Hong Kong's sustained prosperity. She briefed the Ambassador on the work of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels, welcoming the increasing enthusiasm of European countries about strengthening their respective economic and trade relations with Hong Kong SAR.

Also present at the meeting were the Embassy's Political Counsellor Mme. Yang Hua and Chief Political & Press Officer Mr. Pan Xiongwen as well as Deputy Representative Mr. Sam Hui and Assistant Representative Mr. Paul Leung.

After the meeting, Ambassador Yue joined Mme. Lam and her entourage at a Chinese New Year Reception in Dublin organized by Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, celebrating the upcoming Spring Festival together with dozens of Irish friends from various sectors.
